Here are my answers to the four big questions (there were 4? right?):

What's your experience coaching teams toward being Agile?

I discovered Extreme Programming around the turn of the century. I
coached my team to apply many of the XP practices, and a few that we made
up, to the biggest software project that the company had ever undertaken.
Things went well and I went on to introduce agile methods to other
projects over the next several years. Last year, I started the Technical
Management Institute
, to teach software engineers how to lead people,
projects, and teams. Agile methods are a big part of this practice.

What do you plan to learn/explore at this conference?

How can we work together to form a community of practice?

I really want to talk with others who are coaching and training to share
and learn 'best practices', you know, the things that really work!
I live for helping people have 'Ah ha!' moments. I'll show you some of
my tricks; will you show me some of yours?

How do you plan to contribute?

I'd like to facilitate the following session, called:

"Why do Agile Teams Succeed (or Fail)?"

  • "Our project succeeded because we..."
  • "Our project failed because we didn't..."

Come share your experience and tap into the collective wisdom that will
be present. We are going to compile a list of the most important
ingredients for success.

We will use the Nominal Group Technique (NGT) to gather up the group's
experiences and ideas. NGT works faster than traditional brainstorming,
yet generates more complete and higher quality results. Next we will
identify the factors that have had the biggest impact using DOTS, a
technique that efficiently harnesses the collective wisdom of the group,
while avoiding groupthink.

This is really two workshops in one. You will walk out with a better
understanding of what makes agile teams succeed, as well as how to use
NGT and DOTS to tap into the wisdom and knowledge of a group.

What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

This is perhaps the most pressing question of our day. There is complexity
and uncertainty: are we talking about an African or European swallow? I
look forward to participating, along with the other agile coaches, in the
search, if not for an answer, then at least for an approach to an answer
to this great question.

Cheers!
