What's your experience coaching teams toward being Agile?

I have served in a variety of roles in the information technology field, and I’ve been a certified ScrumMaster since 2006. I oversee programmers and project managers in a tech group. My interests lie in the area of agile methodologies and usability, and I’ve been an active advocate for both at work. I’m currently involved in an effort to establish an agile user group in the Central Illinois region.

What do you plan to learn /explore at this conference?

I’d like to find out how people work in mixed environments where both traditional and agile methodologies exist. When we’re able to work in a more agile way, we use hybrid, Scrum-like methods. Are other companies doing this? Also, we’re a small company and programmers often work on multiple projects (including maintenance requests). When your business reality doesn’t allow you to fully embrace agile methods, is there a compromise? Is it better to have some agile practices in place than none at all? What works and what doesn’t in mixed environments? I’m interested in learning more about planning and estimating agile efforts, and will come with questions to that end.

How do you plan to contribute?

I’m approachable and an active participant in any forum I belong to. I will come with discussion items and stories about how I’ve been able to introduce some agility into an environment that’s mostly traditional. I can speak to usability concerns, and can talk about evaluation techniques, usability testing, prototyping, etc.
