  • What's your experience coaching teams toward being Agile?
In 2005 my boss asked me to investigate Agile as a new methodology for our company. He knew I loved to read and research so I think that might be why I got the assignment. I went to the Agile conference in Denver that year and every year since. When I returned I was given free rein to implement Agile on my project in any way I found useful. I had a wonderful team who followed along and we had a very successful launch with few errors. After that, I was asked to begin coaching our other teams. So for 2006 and on, I have been coaching 1-3 Agile teams at our company. I have continued to evolve in my coaching ability as well as the process has evolved a lot in the three years.

  • What do you plan to learn /explore at this conference?
I want to connect with other coaches as right now I am kind of out there by myself coaching in my company. It is hard to know sometimes what I do not know and so I look forward to absorbing as much as I can, while contributing some of the learnings I have had. It is very difficult to be an advocate in your own backyard, but so far it seems that I am being pretty successful. I am always looking for new techniques for my coaching and for our teams.

  • How do you plan to contribute?
I can share how I have learned to become an advocate in my own back yard and found success with that. We have also been working hard on Agile with third party packages and also this year I am coaching a team that is doing data warehousing. I have been running a lot of retrospectives these past years, so I can share some success and learnings from those experiences as well. I also do a lot of training of upper management and the user community on Agile so I can share those experiences. That has helped a lot in getting the company to accept Agile.

I find I learn some of the best information in an Open Space format, so I look forward to this weekend.
