What's your experience coaching teams toward being Agile?

Early adopter of agile in an large organization which has shown an extreme resistance to change whilst they tell management they are agile. Kickstarting teams within a fortune 500 company. Brought product owners and project teams together by helping them collaborate by getting work done and failing fast, and then using what they have learned to improve. Part of a team of coaches that developed elevator conversations, short overview programs, workshops. Adopted other material to build an approach to get teams headed towards agile by helping them understand the principles, the 'rules' and guiding them to build their first product backlog with stories, estimate it with planning poker, and create their first sprint plan.

What do you plan to learn /explore at this conference?

Find ways to coach teams to have the courage to take charge of change in this organization. I have seen teams exhibit the outward behavior of agile, but take no action to help change the way the organization works to further support software development. I have been working with a team that has evolved over the past year to break thru the obstacles the organization has put in front of them by using the cold, hard light that agile shines on bad behavior. They have found that by improving their own development process discipline, that legacy platform development can not only be agile, but far superior than prior development methods. This has worked for us to make our stakeholders become raging fans, building a trust that allows us to approach problems together and change the conversation from being 'you suck' to 'you rock'.

I'd also like to discuss with peers how they have seen large organizations adopt change and organizationally change the way they operate. In particular how testing can be changed when a lot of legacy systems are involved, and no real test environments are built (do we need to build them?).

How do you plan to contribute?

I plan to seek out new life, new civilizations, and to actively share my experience and to soak up as much knowledge as I can. I hope that by helping each other we can collaborate after this camp to continue the conversation.
