WhatTheEventWillBeLike

Cost:

  • Q: What will it cost me?
  • A: As little as possible! We hope to make it free.
  • We'll be looking for sponsors to defray the modest costs we incur ( SponsorshipList )

Outcomes:

Format:

  • arrow We plan to hold the event across 3 days: one evening to get oriented, and two days of OpenSpace
  • arrow Rather than charge a fee, we'll ask you for PositionPapers2008 , to draw thoughtful participants, willing and ready to contribute by speaking, asking good questions, providing thoughtful feedback and making connections.
  • arrow We'll open the weekend with a evening to socialize and share LighteningTalks to "prime the pump"
  • Starting Saturday morning, we will use an OpenSpace approach, to create a participant-led event.
    • Will it be different from a typical OpenSpace in any way?
      • We'd planned to do regular OpenSpace, with a facilitator from outside our community so that everyon gets to participate fully.
      • Do you have a suggestion for improving on what you've seen elsewhere? DeborahHartmannPreuss

  • How will it be like a BarCamp or FooCamp?
    • It will be just like a BarCamp, to the extent that it's an event created and run by its own participants, with no formal talking-head speakers and no pre-set agenda. In these things it's an un-conference just as a BarCamp is
    • In addition, we note that some BarCamps use OpenSpace, not all of them do.
    • OpenSpace has a participant-created agenda like BarCamps do, but it also includes practices like Opening/Closing Circle, Morning/Evening news, and TheLawOfTwoFeet

  • How will it be different than either of those? How will it otherwise be unique?
    • Some BarCamps are very regional, bringing together (or creating) a local community. We hope that AgileCoachCamp will bring together people from far and wide. However, if it also creates or encourages a local community, that's a great bonus!
    • Of course, every BarCamp or OpenSpace event is entirely unique! AgileCoachCamp is likely to reflect interests from very technical (Refactoring, TDD, continuous integration tools), to issues around requirements and management, and on to the "soft skills" needed to help organizations and people navigate change.

  • How will it compare to the OpenSpace (ConferenceWithinAConference) at Agile2007?
    • Similar, but of course without the rest of the preset program that Agile2007 had. Those much more focus (energy??) on/in the Open Space part.

  • How will it compare to a Scrum Gathering?
    • Similar to the latter portion of the Gathering, which is held in OpenSpace, but without the official courses at the beginning of a Gathering. And, of course, we're open to all flavors of Lean-Agile, and to various roles within the organization, not just Scrum Masters.
