BusinessRulesMgmtSystems

Participants:

Mary Gorman
David Bulkin

This session was extremely ad hoc in nature - only being scheduled after BRMSs came up tangetially in another session and several people asked for a BRMS session. The session ended up being just three people but we were able to address some specific questions and concerns as a result.

  • We discussed how the rules of processes of a given domain are often captured in procedural code or databases, when this is appropriate and when a BRMS is probably a better option.

  • We discussed how BRMSs generally don't allow an organization to do anything that couldn't otherwise be done in procedural code but rather make certain types of applications much easier to implement and maintain.

  • We discussed certain implementation pitfalls, e.g., rolling out a BRMS and giving business analysts the ability to create rules before downstream applications are ready to handle any possible rule., and how to avoid them.
