What's your experience coaching teams toward being Agile?

Our company (a very large organization), is in the early stages of agile adoption. In 2007, I was on a project team charged with enabling iterative incremental development. This project used agile techniques and was focused on removing some of the impediments experienced by a group of projects that had experimented with Agile/Scrum/XP techniques and to put in place the support necessary to enable more widespread adoption. 2007 was a year of education and experience for me. I obtained ScrumMaster certification, attended the Agile Development Practices conference, participated in an Agile Community of Interest, contributed to the completion of the iterative enablement project, and did lots of reading.

One of the things created in the 2007 project was a support organization to provide coaching to projects. We currently have a group of coaches and apprentice coaches that support the organization. The coaches are generally consultants with several years of agile coaching experience and the apprentices are internal employees who will be gaining experience in order to continue coaching into the future. I am an apprentice coach and have been working with several coaches on about 7-8 projects.

What do you plan to learn /explore at this conference?

I am very interested in learning about various approaches to coaching/mentoring, ways to keep the coaching group in sync, and ideas to address some common issues that projects experience when beginning to work in an agile way.

How do you plan to contribute?

Coming from a large company with a very prescriptive waterfall methodology, I have experienced what I believe are some common pain points in adopting agile techniques. I will share lessons learned and ask questions to learn from others.
